Two weeks ago I took a break from writing my blog while I was on summer vacation visiting with my mom. It was a surprisingly easy decision to make and I didn’t regret it at all.
But that vacation is over, and I still feel like I need a break from blogging. Part of the issue is that I’m working on my book more regularly, which makes it hard to fit blog writing into my foreshortened days. But I also feel like blogging has become a creative leak, a place where I put ideas for free when I might be able to expand and deepen them into publishable essays. I feel like I’m skimming the surface of topics that I’d like to delve into in more detail, but just don’t have the time and energy to do weekly on the blog. I also sometimes have a hard time coming up with blog ideas, which means I end up with a hodgepodge of posts that don’t coalesce very easily around a central theme.
I’ve been blogging for almost ten years now, and it’s time for a change. I may come back in the next few months, or I may let the blog go. But for now it’s time to focus on other things in life.
Thanks everyone for reading, veteran and new readers alike!
At the very least, you’ll be able to post about not posting. Good luck with the book!
Ha yes, I could totally post about not posting.
Good luck Sarah.
Hope the break – be it brief or long – lends itself to some creative focus, not to mention a chance to finish the book!
Thanks Mike! I hope so, too!
