Back in April I posted that things weren’t going well in the mental health department. One month later and nothing much has changed. I’m still trying to find my footing.
I have been working with my psychiatrist on a new medication regime, but it’s been a bit hit-and-miss. I was finally able to stop taking the huge doses of the new medication because my high finally (and it was a pretty long one) died down. So now the medication actually makes me tired because there’s no high to offset it.
I’m down to half the dose I was on before, but I still feel exhausted. I sleep in until 11 am. I still have my regular nap from 3 pm to 5.30 pm. I told the psychiatrist that I don’t feel like anything has changed and I’m right back where I was in January 2014 – 5 years ago – on the day I first saw him.
He said it’s true that things aren’t going that well, and that I may experience the cognitive impacts of this high event for 6-24 months. Nice, my brain might be scrambled for two years. Fantastic. Just when I thought I was finding my writing groove.
So I don’t have a lot to say because of this brain fog, and the mental capacity I do have is allocated to small everyday chores and writing projects I’m able to work on in small pieces.
In outdoors news, we managed to get our woodland garden done with a new configuration of soaker hoses and a fresh cover of bark mulch. We still have to finish the lower perennial garden but the soaker hoses are sort of in place already. Thankfully we got rain today, which has been somewhat unheard of in the Mays of the past several years, so the garden is going to love it.
I have my veggie garden planted and each raised bed has its own irrigation, so I’m hoping for a bumper crop of veggies this year. I just have to put on the mulch – seedless, chopped up straw from the farm supply store. My peas are up a few inches and my root veggies and greens are all sprouting. The potatoes have already been hilled once. I just bought some tomato and cucumber plants – long English cucumber and pickling cukes. I’m looking forward to lots of pickling this year: cukes, beets, and beans. Maybe even small carrots, if I feel like sacrificing them instead of eating them fresh. I’ve even picked some rhubarb with which I was going to make a rhubarb-raspberry crisp, but am now thinking rhubarb coffee cake would be awesome.
